William A. Jackson of Harvard University's Houghton Library introduces this charming facsimile reprint of the first edition (London, 1788) of this poem by the minor British mariner and writer -- a keepsake sent by this Boston publisher "With All Good Wishes at Christmas." Thomas Rowlandson created the steel-engraved title page graphic showing a half dozen English gents in a pub with books strewn on the table they surround as a serving wench delivers a tankard of ale.
