Considered one of the greatest preachers of his day, this Episcopal clergyman served as rector of St. George's Church in New York City from 1845 to 1878; it is largely due to his efforts that Sunday Schools are such an integral part of American church life, hence his moniker "The Champion of Sunday Schools."
