Attractive early 16th century edition printed in Lyons (Lugduni) by Benedictus Bonnyn as edited by Geoffroy Boussard (1439-1522), theology professor at the Sorbonne and later chancellor of that institution. Eusebius of Caesarea (c. 260-339) was an early Christian historian and theologian known as the "Father of Church History," primarily for this work ("Ecclesiastical History"), which surveys the growth of early Christianity from the first century through his own time. Significant as the first book-length chronicle of the church from a Christian point of view, it was written in Koine Greek and the first Latin edition was published in Utrecht in 1474. Title page partly in red and with large decorative woodcut border; with rubricated initial capital letters and printer's device at the close. This copy has been slightly trimmed, probably when last rebound; other copies of this same edition are somewhat larger (small 4to) in size. A quite nice, tight early printing.
