Marius the Epicurean: His Sensations and Ideas.

Portland, ME: Thomas R. Mosher, 1900. Hardcover. Complete 2-volume set. Ivory and pale blue paper over boards with paper spine labels, dust jackets. xxvi, 211pp; 209pp. Tissue-guarded frontispiece (Volume I), sewn-in green satin page markers. Very good/good only. Both volumes bright and handsome, with Volume I front board just a tad too tight; original thin-stock jackets are both edgeworn, with some tiny edge chips (mainly at corners and more so at spine heads, with much of Volume II spine lacking) and both are expertly and archivally reinforced on versos -- now Brodart encased and fully handlable. Item #48079

Handsome set of this, the only novel (first published 1885) by the prolific British essayist and art/literary critic (1839-94). This lovely Mosher edition, with every page ruled and rubricated initial capital letters, bears colophon noting limitation of 450 sets. And as well-worn as are the jackets, they are rare survivors and are seldom present at all.
