In 1963 Chicago's American League team finished second (94-68) in its 63rd season in the major leagues. Item #47887

Fine glossy 10" X 8" group portrait of the '63 White Sox in uniforms on the field, with text below naming each player in these four rows. Accompanying this is a remarkable collection of 21 signatures of the team's players and coaches -- 18 of them signed in ink on fine, matching heavy stock 5" X 3" cards and 3 of them on oddly-trimmed pieces showing tape stains. Alphabetically, these 18 consist of: Frank Baumann (1933-2020); Ray Berres (1907-2007); John Buzhardt (1936-2008); Joe Cunningham (1931-2021); Tony Cuccinello (1907-95); Don Gutteridge (1912-2008); Ron Hansen; Ray Herbert; Mike Hershberger (1939-2012); Joe Horlen; Jim Landis (1934-2017); J.C. Martin; Charlie Maxwell; Gary Peters; Juan Pizarro (1937-2021); Floyd Robinson; Pete Ward; and Hoyt Wilhelm (1922-2002). 16 of these are dated by the signer at upper right, all but one (1988) in the early 1970s. Original transmittal cards for the 18 signatures on matching cards are all present. The three on oddly-trimmed pieces are as follows: Nelson Fox (1927-75) signs and inscribes ("Best Wishes / To Donald") in blue ink on a 3 3/4" X 2½" slip; Sherm Lollar (1924-77) signs and inscribed ("Good luck / to Donald") in red ink on a 3" X 3" slip; and team manager Al Lopez (1908-2005) signs and inscribes ("Best Wishes") in blue ink on a 2¼" X 1¼" slip. All very good, with several tape stains at borders slightly touching upon several letters. Quite an interesting and unusual grouping representing the majority of this year's team.
