Just a facsimile reprint of the scarce county history of the northwest Illinois region famed for Galena and its many Union generals (including U.S. Grant) -- but itself uncommon, especially in such pristine condition. This special copy hails from the collection of Adlai E. Stevenson III (1930-2021), U.S. Senator from Illinois (1969-81) and long-time Jo Daviess County resident. Front flyleaf is boldly inscribed to him by another famed Jo Daviess County resident, Chicago photographer Archie Lieberman (1926-2008) of "Farm Boy" (1974) fame: "to the Stevensons / with affection / Archie / Lieberman." Best of all, and unlike the 1878 first edition, this ultra-useful edition has had an index added to it, something the original does not have.
