Troilus and Cressida.

New York: The Limited Editions Club, 1939. Hardcover. Edited by George Philip Krapp. 4to. White cloth spine with black lettering and green paper over boards with red and black coat of arms, paper-covered slipcase. xxi, 309pp. Frontispiece. Near fine/near fine. Item #47601

Superb copy of the Chaucer's epic poem retelling the tragic love story set during the siege of Troy -- overshadowed of course by "The Canterbury Lovers" but preferred by many as superior to the better known but unfinished Tales. This text "Rendered into modern English verse" by Krapp as part of the LEC's Tenth Series. The rubricated initial capital letters are lovely and striking. Rear colophon limits it to 1500 numbered copies (this #241) signed by George W. Jones, who designed the type that was printed and bound in London at The Fanfare Press. Publisher's 5½" X 4½" printed announcement and "Monthly Letter" laid in. NEWMAN 113.
