Quite tight and handsome copy of this lovely LEC production, with colophon at rear noting limitation of 1500 numbered copies (this #1430) signed boldly by illustrator Lynd Ward. This acclaimed novel first published in 1900 involves a passenger ship abandoned by its crew and one officer's attempt at redemption. In 1965 an epic British-American adventure film version opened to mixed reviews -- this copy bears fine autograph additions from two of that film version's stars. Tipped neatly to front flyleaf (top to bottom) are: PETER "Lord Jim" O'TOOLE (1932-2013), who boldly signs a heavy stock 5" X 3" card in blue ballpoint, adding "Best Wishes" above; and ELI "The General" WALLACH (1915-2014), who inscribes and signs a heavy stock 5" X 3" card "For Richard C. Laade -- / Best Wishes / Eli Wallach / Stockbridge, Mass." and dates it 29 June 1971 at upper right. Laid in is Wallach's original signature transmittal envelope. Ward's color lithographs are superlative. A most handsome copy -- and with film tie-ins as well most unusual! NEWMAN 300.
