New York: George H. Doran Company, 1927. Hardcover. Small 4to. Brown cloth with black lettering and graphic. xvi, 335pp. Frontispiece, full-page illustrations, folding map, pictorial endpapers. Near fine. Item #47363
This attractive, tight first trade edition (after limited edition of 250 copies) bears an appropriate autograph addition: Tipped to the front pictorial pastedown is a vintage 5¼" X 4½" slip (undated, but clearly 1930s) inscribed and signed large and bold in his usual green ink: "Yours For a Life / of high adventure -- / Lowell Thomas," with a small period newspaper portrait of him affixed alongside. LOWELL THOMAS (1892-1981), noted American writer, broadcaster and traveler, was one of Lawrence's earliest and most noteworthy admirers and publicists; he made Lawrence subject of his influential documentary film "With Allenby in Palestine and Lawrence in Arabia" and of his 1924 book "With Lawrence in Arabia" -- his impact on Lawrence's career and fame was enormous. A lovely copy with relevant added autograph item.
