This African-American boxer, nicknamed "The Brown Bomber," was world heavyweight champion from 1937 to 1949; his celebrated defeat of German champion Max Schmeling was a great blow to the Nazi belief in Aryan superiority and is considered one of the greatest sport events of the 20th century. Item #47184
PS (newsprint), 8" X 5 3/4", n.p., n.y. Near fine. Faintest of age toning only. Newspaper photograph showing (left to right) Jake "Raging Bull" La Motta, Louis, Rocky Graziano and Floyd Patterson at an Easter Seal dinner in New York City on 28 January 1976. The four former champs, all in suits and ties, sit side by side, and La Mottta at far left bends the ear of Louis -- who signs large and bold in black fineline alongside his visage. A very different "Fab Four"! Though on newsprint paper, this piece is quite attractive, highly unusual and has aged well.
