Tight, attractive later (ca. late 1940s) printing of #97 in this series, first published in this form1929. This sharp copy bears a choice autograph addition, being extra-illustrated with an unsigned Autograph Note from Carl Sandburg tipped facing the title page. On this 4½" X 7" sheet (same trim size as text block), the poet boldly pencils a cryptic note: "Also this may serve in parts / for the Whitman-Lincoln / book, if not too late: I am / sure you got a copy of this / some years back." Intriguing content from the famed free verse poet whose multi-volume biography of Lincoln remains a classic regarding another famed free verse poet whose Lincoln poems include "When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd" and "O Captain! My Captain!"
