Chicago: Diamond Jubilee Exposition Authority, 1940. Hardcover. Small 4to. Red cloth with yellow spine lettering and front board paper label. 95pp. Frontispiece. Near fine. Spine (only) faintly sunned, else tight and bright and internally fine. Item #47121
Handsome first edition of the seldom-seen clothbound edition of this Works Projects Administration production, with powerful woodblock frontispiece by Adrian Troy printed in brown. Printed on pale grey antique stock, this book surveys African-American history, music, literature, the arts, etc. The softbound version of this was published at one-fourth the price of the hardbound edition, which is why the softbound is far more common than the lovely hardbound version. An exceptional copy.
