Attractive first edition of this survey of the Chicago library scene, covering not only the Chicago Public Library but also the Ryerson Library, John Crerar Library, Newberry Library, Chicago Historical Society Library and the group that published this study. Interestingly, copyright page bears pencilled ownership signature of one Annie J. Ferguson, below which a modern hand adds, "Graduated from S.D. High school 26th Wabash 1895 went at once to Chicago Public Library to work...." Front flyleaf bears business card of Chicago Public Library board of directors president Ralph G. Newman (1912-99), founder of Chicago's noted Abraham Lincoln Book Shop.
