This principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company became the first person other than Graham to be invited to teach her dance techniques; in 1942 she met legendary folk singer Woody Guthrie and they wed in 1945; after his death from Huntington's Disease in 1967 she founded an organization that became the Huntington's Disease Society of America. On imprinted letterhead featuring an image of Woody playing guitar at lower right, she chats cordially with an admirer. In part: "I am glad that you did write to us.... and I am going to enclose some of the material which we think people with chronic disorders should know about! ... And....since you enjoy Woody.... thought I should send you some of the material which we send to Woodys 'friends!'.... if you are anywheres near our annual TRIBUTE TO WOODY concert.... Hope you might make it and join in the fun!" Boldly signed in blue ballpoint. With original envelope and all of the various enclosures she mentions. Interesting and unusual.
