New York: S. Augustus Mitchell, Jr., 1861. Folio (15¼" X 12¼", image area 13½" X 11"). Hand colored. Very good. Light age toning and faint soiling. Item #46969
Nice, well-colored example of this detailed city plan, drawn and engraved by W.H. Gamble, from the 1864 edition of "Mitchell's New General Atlas, Containing Maps of the Various Countries of the World, Plans of Cities, Etc."Sharp floral border and fine original colors make for a superb image. Primary buildings are all duly noted, such as the recently-completed "Washington Monument," "Capitol," "Smithsonian Instn." and others -- and of course the White House is marked "Presidents House."
