Tight and nice first edition (#1424) of this whodunit featuring the soft-spoken Chinese-American Honolulu police detective, part of this publisher's "Better Little Books" flip book series that spun off their popular "Big Little Books" series. As the upper right corner of the front board proclaims, "See 'em MOVE -- Just flip the pages," which also explains why this sub-series is challenging to find in decent condition as flipping through them tends to cause disintegration. This copy is rather nice in that it shows only slight cocking, with text block mildly bowed. This copy is also unique in that it bears a fine autograph addition: Tipped to the front flyleaf is a 4" X 2" slip (lightly age toned, else fine) boldly inscribed and signed by one of several actors who portrayed Chan in films: "Roland Winters. / Thank you for your / interest" boldly penned in blue ballpoint. Warner Oland first portrayed Charlie Chan in 16 films, followed by Sidney Toler in 22 films, then Winters (1904-89), who portrayed him in six films between 1948 and 1952.
