Stonewall Jackson, the Good Soldier: A Narrative.

New York: Minton, Balch & Company, [1928]. Hardcover. 8vo. Red cloth with black spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. viii, 322pp. Frontispiece, illustrations, maps. Near fine/good plus. Jacket rather edgeworn and bearing small edge chips (mainly at head and tail of spine). Item #46516

Tight and quite attractive second printing of Tate's first separately-published book, with points not noted in any Tate bibliographical sources: Second printing has red cloth binding (instead of black cloth and paper labels) and dust jacket which cites "$1" on front flap, notes "New Popular Edition" at spine tail and lists "New Popular Dollar Editions" on rear panel (first edition bears no red, bears different rear panel and notes $3.50 front flap price). Still rather scarce in the jacket, and this particular copy bears nice addition: Neatly tipped to rear flyleaf is a single-folded 10½" X 6 3/4" Congressional mailing envelope and in it a very good copy of Senate Document No. 173, a self-cover pamphlet entitled "Sketch of the Life of Stonewall Jackson Written by Miss Anna Jackson Preston and Presented to the Senate on May 10, 1928, by Hon. Cole L. Blease Senator from South Carolina." Small 4to, 4pp. NEVINS II, 93. DORNBUSCH II, 2856.
