Chicago: R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company, 1923. Hardcover. Edited by Milo Milton Quaife. 16mo. Dark green cloth with gilt lettering, rules and medallion. xxvii, 388pp. Top edge gilt. Foldout frontispiece map, illustration. Very good. Quite light edgewear only, else internally near fine. Item #46222

Tight and most attractive copy of the 21st volume in the "Lakeside Classics," the annual Christmas keepsake given by this printer and publisher to friends and clients starting in 1903. First published in London in 1849, it contains (to cite first edition's subtitle) "A Narrative of the Expedition Fitted Out by John Jacob Astor, to Establish the 'Pacific Fur Company;' With an Account of Some Indian Tribes on the Coast of the Pacific." Early Lakesides from their "green period" -- the first thirty years -- have become scarce in recent years. A quite nice copy with giltstamping bright. HOWES L443 note.

Price: $100.00
