Item #44895 Autograph Letter Signed. Juan PRIM.

Autograph Letter Signed.

This many-titled Spanish general -- 1st Count of Reus, 1st Marquess of los Castillejos, 1st Viscount of Bruch -- led a varied, colorful career in which he became governor of Madrid, captain-general of Puerto Rico and other exploits in Morocco, Mexico and elsewhere before becoming prime minister of Spain and briefly its virtual dicatator (1869-70) before being assassinated. Item #44895

ALS in French, 1p, 5¼" X 8¼", n.p., 19 July n.y. [1869]. Very good. On a heavy stock lettersheet bearing "Ministerio de la Guerra" blind-embossed at upper left, Prim boldly and sloppily pens this note in brown ink arranging an interview for the following day. Quite attractive and a superb example of this scarce autograph. Accompanied by a scarce carte-de-visite, heavy stock 2½" X 4", backstamp of photographer Louis Alman of New York. Very good. Darkened (possibly glue residue) along ¼" left edge, else nice. Handsome sepia-tone full-length portrait of Prim in full uniform. Also comes with a 6 3/4" X 9" steel-engraved half-length portrait of Prim at the height of his fame in full uniform.
