Not even a presidential secretary, but a lowly vice presidential aide to Vice President Charles G. Dawes, second-in-command under Calvin Coolidge (1925-29). Item #44771
TLS, 1p, 8½" X 11", Chicago, IL, 9 September 1925. Addressed to J.V. Holland. Very good. Original folds (not weakened); lightly age toned. Writing while out of town on "The Vice President's Chamber" letterhead, Chaney thanks an admirer with an unusual request for a letter received "just as he was leaving Chicago for an extended speaking tour of the Pacific coast.... There is being sent you under separate cover, with the compliments of the Vice President, a pipe of the type he smokes...." Boldly signed in brown ink. Most odd!
