History of the Tenth Regiment Indiana Volunteer Infantry: Three Months and Three Years Organizations.

Lafayette, IN: N.p., 1912. Hardcover. Wide small 8vo. Blue cloth with gilt front board lettering and rules. 325pp. Illustrations. Very good. Mild binding edgewear only. Item #44713

A tight and attractive first edition of this scarce Hoosier regimental history -- a thorough chronicle of the many noteworthy battles and engagements in which it took part. A choice presentation copy as well, with front flyleaf inscribed and signed large and bold by Shaw in blue ink: "Presented to / Miss Martha Manson / With Compliments / of the / Author." Mahlon D. Manson (1820-95) was one of the original commanders of this noteworthy regiment; he had a distinguished and colorful war career and then post-war served the Hoosier state in Congress (1871-73) and as lieutenant governor (1885-86) -- he is pictured in this book and mentioned many times. Martha Geyer Manson (1861-1923) was the fourth of his six children. Outstanding copy of a quite uncommon title.
