Cosmic View: The Universe in 40 Jumps.

New York: The John Day Company, 1957. Hardcover. Small 4to. Light blue cloth with black spine lettering. 48pp. Extensive illustrations, maps, pictorial endpapers. Good plus. Though tight and internally near fine, binding is irregularly sunned (most so on spine), with some smudges. Item #44692

Third printing of this unusual attempt to put our world into some cosmic perspective -- science and astronomy for juvenile readers. Interestingly, this copy bears a blue ballpoint gift inscription on title page from Elizabeth "Buffie" Stevenson Ives (1898-1994), sole (and older) sister of Illinois governor and two-time presidential candidate Adlai E. Stevenson II, to her great-nephew Adlai IV ("To Adlai / from Aunt Buffie / Christmas 1964") -- and hails from the library of her nephew Adlai E. Stevenson III (b. 1930), former Illinois senator. Nice copy of this uncommon volume with an unusual provenance.
