Cabot Wright Begins.

New York: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, [1964]. Hardcover. 8vo. Black cloth with gilt spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 228pp. Very good/very good. Some mild inoffensive discoloration to top cloth portions; jacket faintly edgeworn and mildly age toned. Item #44593

First edition, tight and nice, of this humorous criticism of modern American values, enlivened by a cast of eccentrics. From the library of academic and literary critic Joseph J. Waldmeir (1923-2013), with the original 4-page unsigned typescript of his review of Purdy's 1959 novel "Malcolm," 8½" X 11", n.p., n.y. Very good. Where this review was published is not clear -- possibly in Waldmeir's 1963 "Recent American Fiction: Some Critical Views," possibly in an academic journal.
