A tight and nice first edition of this Pulitzer Prize-winning novel set in Sicily during World War Two -- with interesting autograph addition: Among the various stage, film and television versions of this was a 1967 "Hallmark Hall of Fame" production, and signatures of two main cast members are tipped to the front flyleaf on fine matching heavy stock 5" X 3" cards. JOHN FORSYTHE (1918-2010, who played lead Major Victor P. Joppolo) inscribes in blue ballpoint "With good wishes, Richard" and signs boldly, dating it "Dec 21, 1971"; and TOM SKERRITT (born 1933, who played Sergeant Trapani) signs large and bold in black fineline, dating it "88." Laid in is the perfect bookmark: Forsythe's original mailing envelope. A sharp copy with nice add-ons to the made-for-t.v. rendition.
