A lovely, tight first edition of this volume in series editor Henry G. Alsberg's "American Procession Series." Choice autograph addition: Tipped facing the half-title page is an Autograph Note Signed from Sandoz, 1p, heavy stock 5½" X 3¼" postal card, New York, NY, 4 December 1954. Addressed to noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar Arnold F. Gates (1914-93). Near fine. On her embossed correspondence card, she sends "Mr. G. Thanks for the invitation to the meeting of the Round Table. It came when I was very deep in the final polish of a novel and couldn't take a minute out. I'm sorry, but perhaps I can have a rain check...." Boldly penned and signed in her usual brown ink.
