Longhorn Trail Drivers: Being a True Story of the Cattle Drives of Long Ago.

N.p. Frank M. King, 1940. Hardcover. Small 4to. Burgundy leatherette with gilt lettering. xiii, 272pp. Frontispiece, illustrations, pictorial and map endpapers. Near fine. Appropriate Western brand-style ownership signature on front pastedown. Item #43252

A lovely and tight first edition, though out-of-sequence, lacking colophon limiting the edition to 400 numbered copies. As he often did, King here boldly signs in full in blue ink beneath his frontispiece portrait, adding "Cowhand Author" -- and on the copyright page he handsomely inscribes and signs "To Clifford S. Hadley, / Tophand dentist, Expert in his / line, and a lover of the colorful / traditions of what we have / come to call the Old West. / Sincerely yours / Frank M. King / Cowhand Author. / October 1944, / Los Angeles, California." A charming copy of this uncommon self-published memoir. HERD 1274. HOWES K 150.
