Wonderfully tight and nice leatherbound edition of this quartet of Western novellas, the other three being "Canyon Walls," "Avalanche" and "From Missouri" and featuring color illustrations by Frank Schoonover, Thomas Moran, Frederick Remington and Charles M. Russell -- and with a fine autograph addition: Tipped to an inner flyleaf is a heavy stock 5" X 3" card signed boldly in his usual purplish ink by Zane Grey and, below that, a 3½" X 2½" printed "Mrs. Zane Grey" correspondence card which, upon opening, reveals a handwritten sentiment from the novelist's wife: "Thank you for / your letter of / sympathy. / Lina Elise Grey." Undated, but clearly penned shortly after her husband's death in 1939. Lina "Dolly" Elise Roth Grey (1883-1957) was married to Grey from 1905 until his death, and not only put up with his many dalliances but guided his career and practically served as his literary agent, revising and editing most of his prodigious output, negotiating his book and film contracts, overseeing his finances and so on. A volume in this publisher's "The Collected Stories of the World’s Greatest Writers" series. Laid in is this publisher's 12mo 22-page explanatory booklet. A unique copy of this handsome production.
