The Bellamy Trial.

New York: Doubleday, Page & Company, 1927. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Orange cloth with black lettering. 324pp. Very good. Mild edgewear. Item #43006

A tight, nice early printing of one of the "Haycraft Queen Cornerstone" titles -- with unusual autograph addition: Tipped to the front flyleaf is a heavy stock 5" X 3" card boldly signed in black fineline and dated (12 October 1974) by Leatrice Joy, star of the 1929 silent film version of this mystery -- MGM's second attempt at a partly-talkie film. Joy also penned an interesting sentiment on the verso of this card, and a diecut opening on the flyleaf allows one to read it: "a definition of a day -- a day is a miracle created by God -- Go forth and be worthy of it -- Like?" Joy (1893-1985) was a popular silent film leading lady whose films include the 1923 version of Cecil DeMille's "The Ten Commandments." Laid in is the perfect bookmark: The original mailing envelope for this Leatrice Joy signature and sentiment.
