ANS, 1p, buff heavy stock 5½" X 3" penny postcard, West Park, NY, 1 January 1952. Addressed to Arnold F. Gates (1914-93, noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar). Near fine. Nice recap of his father's work, reading in part: "There is just published an anthology of father's writings -- 'John Burroughs America' -- Devin-Adair Co -- I could recommend 'Riverby,' 'Far & Near' or 'Camping & Tramping with Roosevelt.' Dr [Clara] Barrus wrote 'Whitman & Burroughs' -- also in her 'Life & Letters of John Burroughs' there is much about their friendship...." Address portion also penned in Burroughs' hand. A handsome example with nice content.
