This long-lived officer first served with the 18th U.S. Infantry during the Civil War, taking part in many important campaigns, then served during the Indian Wars in the West; he led a regiment in Cuba during the Spanish-American War. Item #41037
ANS, 1p, 6" X 7", Brookline, MA, 24 June 1934. Addressed to Arnold F. Gates (1914-93, noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar). Near fine. On his embossed letterhead and boldly penned in thick black ink in his interesting hand, Bisbee accedes to an autograph request, adding tersely, "Please acknowledge telling me who you are and why you want it." Below his full signature, he adds "Brig. Genl. / U.S. Army." Nice example.
