This Lakota, known as "Chief Eagle of the Teton Sioux," served in the Marines during World War Two and boxed professionally before settling in as a Native American advocate: Writer, poet, painter, dancer, community leader; his historical novel "Winter Count" (1967) relates the Sioux version of the 1876 Battle of the Little Big Horn in which General Custer commits suicide. PS, 5¼" X 7 3/4", n.p., n.y. Very good. Faint age toning at right margin (not affecting image). Matte finish, well-known head-and-shoulders portrait of the Chief in ceremonial headdress, signed boldly in blue ballpoint across the bottom of his image.
