A tight, attractive first edition -- with a nice autograph addition: Laid in is a Typed Note Signed from Bryant, 1p, 8½" X 11", Hayward, CA, 1970 November 4. Addressed to literature professor and critic Joseph Waldmeir (1923-2013). The California State College professor informs the Michigan State University professor that he is being sent this book, which "has just been released.... I have long wanted to tell you how much I admired your article -- long ago, now -- in 'Nation,' on the war novel. Norm Grabo Sends his regards to you...." Signed boldly in full in blue ballpoint. With original envelope, which is tipped to the front flyleaf. Waldmeir is quoted on page 132 of this book, and a modest number of Waldmeir's pencilled lines, squiggles and comments grace the margins.
