One of the most renowned of 20th century miniature book publishers (i.e., less than 3") was this New England publisher, who published 46 miniature books between 1935 and 1977; inaugural addresses, sermons, dedicatory remarks, eulogies and the like were his forte, published in limited editions in full leather with gilt stamping, gilt edges and all the trimmings. Item #37840

ANS, 1p, 8½" X 11", Worcester, MA, 1960 June 25. Addressed to Arnold F. Gates (1914-93), Lincoln and Civil War scholar and officer of the New York Civil War Round Table. Near fine. On his "Publisher and Bookseller" letterhead, St. Onge tells the long-time "Lincoln Herald" book review editor, "Many thanks for your efforts to promote the Lincoln book. Please accept the enclosed copy as an extra bonus for your fine work." (Gates reviewed St. Onge's "Abraham Lincoln, 1809-1959: The Address by Carl Sandburg before the United States Congress" in his "Lincoln Herald" column and his Round Table's newsletter.) He goes on: "I want to publish a two volume set next year -- a blue and a gray -- to commemorate the Centennial of the Civil War -- and any suggestions you may have about the material for this will be appreciated. I have already gathered some...." Handsomely penned in black in St. Onge's fine, non-miniature script.
