Proceedings of a Conference of Governors in the White House, Washington, D.C., May 13-15, 1908.

Washington, DC: Government Printing Office, 1909. Hardcover. Small 4to. Green cloth with gilt lettering and black decorations. xxxvii, 451pp. Illustration, charts, tables. Very good. Extremely mild edgewear; ownership signature on inner flyleaf. Item #36794

First edition -- tight, clean, most handsome and internally a solid near fine. Complete proceedings of this early conservation conference, with a handsome "From the White House" transmittal slip tipped opposite the title page. Theodore Roosevelt of course led the charge in this "Who's Who" -- among the earliest attempts to "consider measures for the conservation of the country's natural resources." It was supposedly this very conference that introduced the word "conservation" into our everyday language. A superb copy.
