This African-American boxer, nicknamed "The Brown Bomber," was world heavyweight champion from 1937 to 1949; his celebrated defeat of German champion Max Schmeling was a great blow to the Nazi belief in Aryan superiority and is considered one of the greatest sport events of the 20th century. Small heavy stock PS, oddly trimmed 3¼" X 5½", n.p., n.y. [ca. 1960]. Very good. Several faint tape stains at the edges, visible but not terribly disfiguring. Small printed head-and-shoulders portrait of a middle-aged Louis in suit and tie on heavy yellow stock, with "JOE LOUIS" printed along the bottom -- likely a portion of a promotional appearance by Louis around 1960. In a light portion at lower left, Louis signs boldly in black ballpoint. Despite odd shape and small stains, a fairly attractive example. Item #36564
