First edition -- tight, clean -- of this address in which this academic argues eloquently on behalf of a proposed railroad line running from Concord, New Hampshire's capitol city, to the Connecticut River. Haddock (1796-1861) was a long-time professor of rhetoric, intellectual philosophy and civil policy at Dartmouth College, also serving (1850-54) as charge d'affaires of the United States at Portugal; he authored a number of pamphlets on a variety of educational and civic issues.
