Item #33250 Private Duty. Faith BALDWIN.

Private Duty.

New York: Triangle Books, [1941]. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Grey cloth, pictorial dust jacket. 338pp. Very good/very good. Text block lightly age toned as usual. Item #33250

Tight and quite handsome first reprint edition of this potboiler, first published in 1936 by The Blakiston Company. Tipped to the front flyleaf is a modern 3" X 4" bookplate with a color reproduction of Jean-Honore Fragonard's oil painting "A Young Girl Reading," below which the author boldly pens, "Signed by / Faith Baldwin." Delightful Meredith Law jacket art features a pastel portrait of the heroine in white nurse's cap. Notes the front jacket flap, "Pretty Carolyn Cutler generally knew her own mind. She had learned to during three long years of training at Updale, earning the right to sign herself, Registered Nurse. But now that she was successfully out on her own, she faced a problem which her nursing training alone couldn't solve. Three men wanted to marry her...." Baldwin (1893-1978) was a popular, prolific sentimental novelist well known from the 1930s through the 1960s. A superb, bright copy with a fine autograph addition.
