The Indian Races of America: Comprising a General View (Historical and Descriptive) of All the Most Celebrated Tribes Throughout the Continent and Adjacent Islands....

Boston: Dayton and Wentworth, 1855. Hardcover. 8vo. Half black calf and black cloth over boards, gilt spine. 640pp. Engraved title page (titled "The Indian Races of North and South America") with hand-colored engraving, numerous illustrations (many hand colored). Very good. Binding a bit edgeworn, with leather portions rough, and outer hinges just a tad delicate, but overall a clean, nice copy. Internally quite nice -- tight and clean. 19th century bookplate on front pastedown. Item #33067

Later printing of this 1853 study, noted for its ample hand-colored plates. Brownell (1822-1909) was a Connecticut attorney turned painter, well known for landscapes and seascapes; this is his only book.
