Signature and Salutation.

The third editor of the "New York Tribune" (the first being Horace Greeley, the second Whitelaw Reid) joined that venerable publication in 1876 and was named editor-in-chief in 1905, serving until 1913. On a clipped 5 3/4" X 2" slip, the editor boldly pens in black fountain pen: "With best wishes for your / prosperity and happiness, / I am / Very sincerely Yours, / Hart Lyman." Near fine. Two pinholes at upper left, not affecting text. Also present is the similarly-sized masthead from the same letterhead sheet the inscription was clipped, bearing a printed "New York Tribune" and dated by Lyman 9 January 1910. Item #32490
