The famed "Archpriest of Hita" (ca. 1238-1351) was a Spanish clergyman and poet remembered for his epic "Libro de Buen Amor" ("Book of Good Love"), which first appeared in 1330 and was then in expanded form in 1343 -- an enormous rhymed conglomeration of love tales, folklore, legends, religious attacks and so on. From the collection of musicologist and conductor/director Paul Clinton Echols (1944-94).
