Signature.
This career Army officer served with the 9th Delaware Infantry and elsewhere during the Civil War, fighting at Fredericksburg, Spottsylvania and Petersburg; he rose up through the ranks to lieutenant colonel and quartermaster of U.S. Volunteers, and was named brigadier general in 1902. Large and bold clipped signature in black ink, 4¼" X 1¼", n.p., n.y. [ca. 1900]. Very good. Minor mounting traces on verso. "Respectfully," typed in blue above Bird's signature and "Colonel & quartermaster, U.S. Vols." below. Nice example. Item #31678
