This noted Quaker educator and editor was a professor at Swarthmore College before being appointed the Virgin Island's first civilian governor by President Hoover in 1931, a post he held until 1935; he was a leader in the Chautauqua movement -- and the father of journalist Drew Pearson. Small but neat and full signature in black ink clipped from a TLS, 7¼" X 5½", St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, 1932 January 22. Very good.
