Signature.

This U.S. naval officer distinguished himself in the Mexican-American War, commanding the bomb vessel "Vesuvius" in 1847; a captain in the Civil War, he participated in the attack on Port Royal; named commodore in 1863, he commanded a portion of Admiral Porter's fleet in the bombardment of Fort Fisher; as rear admiral, he served as commandant of the Brooklyn Navy Yard from 1868 to 1870. Signature on portion of a Printed Document, 6" X 4", n.p. [Brooklyn], 1869 July 31. Near fine. Printed portion along top reads "for the month ending..........., 18...., whic[h]," with printed "APPROVED:" at center left and printed "Commandant" at lower right. Godon signs boldly near the center, while the date and his title ("Rear Admiral") have been penned in another hand. Nice example signed while commandant of the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Item #31652
