This popular and influential Scottish theologian was a professor of moral philosophy and mathematics; as leader of the evangelical section of the Church of Scotland, he became first moderator of the Free Church of Scotland. Signature and salutation, 4¼" X 2 3/4" (tipped to slightly larger leaf), n.p., n.y. Very good. Faint bit of age toning and foxing. Attractive portion presumably clipped from an ALS, penned boldly in dark brown ink and reading in full: "him. / I am / Sir / Yours truly / Th Chalmers / [John D. Muskie] Esqr." Item #31651
