Item #31594 Typed Note Signed. George H. NELMS.

Typed Note Signed.

This Canadian optician was elected mayor of Ottawa in 1957, serving until 1960; the high point of his administration was his welcoming Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip to Ottawa in 1957, during which time they took part in a ceremony to begin construction of the Queensway superhighway project. TNS, 1p, 8" X 10", Ottawa, Canada, 1957 November 27. Addressed to Bruno J. Gianetti. Very good. Light age toning; mounting traces on verso. On ornate "Office of the Mayor" letterhead, the newly-elected mayor comments on the best-known event of his reign just after its occurrence: "...I am sending along now a photograph of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and myself, taken at one of the functions when Her Majesty was in Ottawa, prior to Her Majesty's visit to the United States in October 1957...." Large bold full signature. Alas, the photograph mentioned is not present. Item #31594
