And It Was Told of a Certain Potter. Walter C. LANYON.

And It Was Told of a Certain Potter.

N.p. N.p., n.y., [ca. 1917]. Hardcover. Small 4to. Full leatherette, gilt. 64pp. Glossy marbled endpapers. Very good. Bit of mild edgewear, mainly along spine, but spine gilt still bright. Tight and handsome, this unusual and cryptic edition appears to be the finished original typescript of this well-known Christian metaphysical text first privately published in 1917 by the Book & Art Shop (Milwaukee) before W.F. Ottarson (New York) brought out a trade edition in 1918; by 1924 Elva M. Weidman (Peoria, IL) was publishing the sixth edition. Typed in blue on rectos only, with each recto side bearing fine margin rules on all sides in red. This bibliographically cryptic copy is almost certainly the finished typescript as prepared by or for the author. At lower right of front board the name “Margaret Hunt” is giltstamped – presumably the person who had this typescript custom bound. Lanyon (1887-1967) was an English-born American author of more than forty metaphysical titles, along with two operettas, short stories, plays and articles. "And It Was Told of a Certain Potter," his most popular book, spawned a 1921 sequel: "Abd, Allah, Teacher, Healer." Item #31579
