A tight and lovely first edition of this company history by the former Rudolf Bing assistant (1925-91) who single-handedly transformed this regional opera into one of the country's premiere companies. The author signs and dates this copy large and bold in black fineline on the half-title page: "Robert Herman / Miami August 1986." Above this is a personalized inscription ("To Marilou Sargent -- / With warm and happy memories / of an Italian adventure!"), in the same pen but apparently in a different (likely secretarial) hand.
