Force or Reason: Issues of the Twentieth Century.

Force or Reason: Issues of the Twentieth Century.

Cambridge: Harvard University Press, 1937. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Green cloth, price-clipped dust jacket. 167pp. Very good/very good. A tight, clean and lovely first edition by the Czech-born American philosopher and historian (1891-1971) -- with a unique twist: The title page bears a choice presentation inscription from fellow Czech MAX BROD (1884-1968), noted author, journalist and composer well known for his close association with Franz Kafka, whose estate he represented: "Meiner Lieben Nichte Thea / Dank fur die Gratulation / Max" in bold black fountain pen. Brod was known as a staunch supporter of Kohn's ideas on nationalism, making his presentation of this particular volume appropriate and intriguing. Most unusual. Item #29514
