This French diplomat served as ambassador to the United States in Andrew Jackson's time; he married Mary Lewis, daughter of President Jackson's aide Major William Lewis, in the first Roman Catholic ceremony ever held in the White House on November 29, 1832; Jackson was godfather to their son -- Andrew Jackson Pageot, whose baptism was the second Roman Catholic ceremony held in the White House. Third person ANS, 1p, 4½" X 7¼", Washington, DC, 1846 December 7. Addressed to Mr. Young. Very good. Bit of mild age toning and minor touch of foxing. "Mr. Pageot presents his compliments to Mr. Young & begs leave to remind him of the case of appraisement [?] he submitted to him some time ago, also of the collection of the circulars in relation to the [Tariff?] & warehouse uptown which he was good enough to promise to furnish him...."
