Readin', Writin', and Round Tablers.

New York: The Civil War Round Table of New York, 1966 June 14. Paperback. 16mo. Stiff wrappers. (4pp). Fine. NOT a speech or essay, but rather a program for the 150th meeting of this distinguished group held at New York's Park 100 Restaurant, the topic of the meeting as announced on the front wrapper being this speech. Near the center of this, Newman handsomely inscribes it in blue fountain pen "For Arnold Gates who knows / better, but is generous --" then signs boldly nearer the bottom. Inside left consists of the program itinerary, inside right a thumbnail biography of Newman, outside rear wrapper a list of CWRT members. Newman (1912-98) was founder of Chicago's noted Abraham Lincoln Book Shop and a founder of the country's first Civil War Round Table in Chicago. From the collection of noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar ARNOLD F. GATES (1914-93; CWRT president 1965-66). An attractive, unusual memento. Item #28987
